All Heart, All of the Time
Marilyn Megenitys Mercury Café always rolls out the red carpet for Valentines Day, and this year is no exception: Because the holiday of passion falls on a weekend, shes allowing the love to lazily spill over on both Saturday and Sunday, with a Valentine Visions art show and the annual Mercury Motley Players Valentines Follies giving continuity to the goings-on. The players will perform Goldman Sex, billed as a sick romantic comedy for the politically astute and pissed off, at 7 p.m. tomorrow; admission is $10 at the door. But you and your honey can prep yourselves today: The Merc hosts Dance Moves for Couples from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Vagina Monologues at 2 p.m., a singles event from 4 to 8 p.m., bawdy Irish ballads with Colcannon at 7:30 p.m., gypsy swing and belly dancing later and, throughout the evening, a special romantic menu in the restaurant.
And on Valentines Day proper, the Merc starts it off early with a romantic brunch menu until 3 p.m., a love-inspired community sing-along at 2 p.m., swing dancing to the Queen City Jazz Band at night, along with continued love-noshing in the dining room.
Reservations are recommended for dinner, especially on Sunday; for information about admission fees for various events visit www.mercurycafe.com or call 303-294-9281.
