That’s a party goal that pretty much anyone can get behind. The beneficiary of the wood-cutting shenanigans is Environmental Learning for Kids — a match made in heaven if ever there was one — and the ease of throwing together a lumberjack costume is one reason this party has continued to grow every year since its 2009 inception.
“Everyone can join; everyone has some element of this costume stuffed in a closet or under a bed somewhere,” says Nichols. “We’ve had people dress up like Babe the blue ox — and we have people now who dress up like trees. Everyone puts their own spin on it.”
This year, members of the Colorado State University Loggins Sports Team will be on hand to show aspiring lumberjacks how the pros handle their wood. The main event will take place at the ViewHouse, 2015 Market Street, from 2 to 5 p.m.; afterward, lumberjacks are welcome to stay and drink, or they can pick up a map and embark on a crawl of participating locations that will be offering drink specials for flannel-wearing boozers.
Admission is free to anyone wearing lumberjack gear, and lumberjacks will also receive a free drink at the ViewHouse; donations for ELK will be accepted at the venue. Visit denverlumberjacks.com to learn more.
