Belly-Laugh Up To the Bar
Inclusion is the name of the game for tonight’s Comedy Show at the Bar, when host Chuck Roy will welcome one and all to a monthly showcase featuring both seasoned and fresh-faced comics from the GLBTQ community and beyond. Roy and fellow comic Penny From Heaven first kicked off this celebration of transgender-centered comedians on National Coming Out Day last year; Heaven had recently come out as transgendered, and the two friends saw an opportunity to build a night geared toward a full range of queer and allied comedians.
The Bar — which is home to a diverse weekly lineup of comedy, music and film programming — seemed like the perfect fit for Comedy Show. “I guess if you really have to label it, the Bar is a gay bar,” says Roy. “But it’s the 21st century: Denver customers don’t really go by that label so much, and that’s why I like the venue.”
Join Roy and Heaven — along with comedians Mona Lott and Jordan Wieleba — at 8 p.m. at the Bar, 554 South Broadway. The 21-and-up event is $5 at the door; for more information, visit www.itsthebar.com or call 303-733-0122.
