"There are so many things that need to be done in Africa," says Natalie McIntyre, a volunteer for the non-profit organization Food for the Hungry. "I know that they need food, but I think it's really important to empower people.
"Fourteen million people in Uganda don't have access to health care," she adds. Changing that statistic is the focus of tonight's Bikes for Uganda fundraising event in the Ben Cherrington Hall cafe on the University of Denver campus. McIntyre wants to raise money to purchase bicycles, which will be used as ambulances and transportation for medical workers.
Stop by the cafe tonight at 6 p.m. to experience guest speakers, traditional Ugandan snacks and a short documentary about how one Ugandan woman's life changed when she gained access to a bike. Bring cash for donations; if you can't make the event but still want to help the cause, call McIntyre at 303-815-2680. To learn more about Food for the Hungry, visit www.fh.org. Ride on!
