Bite Into Boulder
Boulder has had first-rate restaurants for years and lately, such eateries as Frasca Food & Wine and the Kitchen have brought the town national attention. Now an equally first-rate publicist is determined to further increase Boulder's visibility. Kate Lacroix returned to town from New York two years ago and opened d i s h Publicity. She has teamed up with Dining Out magazine's Josh Dinar to create First Bite Boulder. Although Frasca is not participating, for a week starting today and ending November 18 diners will be able to experience forty vastly different Boulder eateries at a price of $26, everything from the sophisticated and meticulous European fare at L'Atelier to Ras Kassa's thyme-inflected Ethiopian dishes, Latin American offerings from Aji and the bustling bistro atmosphere at Brasserie Ten Ten. Maps, menus and a list of participants can be found at www.firstbiteboulder.com. The opening-night gala costs $75 and will be held at the St. Julien Hotel, 900 Walnut Street, with proceeds going to Community Food Share. The hotel is also sponsoring a signature drink contest at its T-Zero Bar, with all entries using Level vodka.
"There's a pretty tight group of Boulder restaurants," says Dave Query, whose Big Red F Restaurant Group includes Denver's Lola, Boulder's Zolo Grill and Rhumba tavern, and Jax, which has venues in both cities. "Maybe because this is a smaller community than Denver and there are a lot of restaurants per capita. So there's a bit of nice incestuousness. When somebody like Kate approaches us, it's an easy sell. She saw the opportunity and roped us in in a simple, seamless way."
