We recently witnessed a professional eater down thirteen yolky eggs in eight minutes during a Scotch egg battle in Cherry Creek — and to put it bluntly, the sight wasn’t remotely pretty. In fact, it was really, really hedonistic. But eating challenges are rarely designed for delicate stomachs, and today’s Freaky Fast Sandwich Making and Eating Contest, sponsored by Jimmy John’s, the national sandwich chain, is no exception.

The eat feat, which gets under way at 6 p.m. during the Mile High Music Festival at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, pits three badass, Major League Eaters from the International Federation of Competitive Eating — yes, there really is such a thing — against one another in a six-minute race to see who can stomach the most sandwiches made by three Jimmy John’s sandwich-makers, all of whom will attempt to slap meat, condiments and whatever else they can find between two slabs of bread faster than the competi-tors can down them. The contenders? Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti, Tim “Gravy Train” Brown and Colorado’s own Bryan “Big Sexy” Beard, who lives in Aurora and is currently ranked No. 34 in the world of competitive eating. Only one question: Will he chew or swallow? For more information, go to
