More than a decade ago, actor Robert Dubac launched a one-man, multi-character comedic performance on gender issues titled The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron. After taking that show around the world, the Telluride resident is back with a sequel: Robert Dubac's Male Intellect: The 2nd Coming, which begins a one-month engagement tonight at Curious Theatre Company, 1080 Acoma Street. And this time, Dubac dives into a wider range of subjects.
"The old show is funny, but we were swimming in the shallow end of the humor pool," says Dubac, who promises to tackle everything from religion to politics to the media. "In the new show, we're going to be treading water in the deep end." If that sounds too brainy, consider Dubac's example of the insights to be dispensed: "One character figures out how to solve execution and abortion at the same time just change the semantics. Don't call it an execution; call it an abortion in the 94th trimester. And don't call it an abortion; call it premature law enforcement."
The show runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through August 28. Tickets are $30, with a two-for-one special on Thursdays. For more information, call 303-623-0524 or go to www.curioustheatre.org.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Aug. 2. Continues through Aug. 28
