Check Out the Living Library
I'm a true bibliophile, and my collection fills every nook and cranny in my house. But while my books are great travel companions and often help lull me to sleep or stay up all night with me, I can't have a true back-and-forth discourse with them. Enter The Living Library: Grow Your Mind at the Denver Public Library, where human "living books" will be available for personal conversations.
Each book is a person chosen for his or her expertise on a topic and can be checked out for thirty-minute sessions; they even come with titles and book covers! You can have a conversation with these "books" on everything from beekeeping, urban gardening, biking in the city, economics, vegetarianism and much more.
Living Libraries originated in Europe a few years ago, and DPL is introducing the concept as a way to encourage local green living. Not only will these books provide resources and a wealth of information, but speaking with a live person who is passionate about a topic should inspire participants to learn about and try new things. Groups can check out a single book together, and holds can be placed on books, but only one book at a time may be checked out.
The Living Library goes from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. today in the Level B2 Conference Center at the Central Library, 10 West Fourteenth Avenue Parkway. For more information, call 720-865-1206 or visit denverlibrary.org.
