Always wanted to walk the red carpet and be brave enough to get a critique from the fashion police? Now’s your chance. For its first-ever fundraiser, Off-Center @ the Jones is throwing the Gayest Oscar Party Ever tonight at Hamburger Mary’s, complete with a “rainbow carpet” entrance and commentary from host Jon Jon Lannen. Guests are encouraged to dress to impress, as Lannen will be asking the all-important “Who are you wearing?” Along with a viewing of the Academy Awards, the evening will be sprinkled with live drag and improvisation from the casts of Drag Machine and Cult Following, two Off-Center shows.
“We wanted to prove that people are interested in this new entry point for theater,” says general manager Diana Buirski of Off-Center’s yearly mission. Ticket sales to the night of Oscar fun will go to benefit the theater’s upcoming season. Guests can also donate additional funds and pick out wearable swag from the “Come Out of the Closet” closet to spice up their red-carpet duds.
The benefit kicks off at 5 p.m. at Hamburger Mary’s, 700 East 17th Avenue. Tickets are $35 for the “All the Single Ladies” level, which includes drink tickets and hors d’oeuvre; $300 for the “Twink” four-pack and a reserved table; and $400 for the “Bear” four-pack, with all of the above plus a champagne toast from Go-Go Boy Bottle Service.
