Homer Simpson might have once called them "cheese-eating surrender monkeys," but let's face it: When it comes to cuisine, the French blow the rest of the world with the possible exception of the Italians completely out of the water. My most memorable meals have been almost exclusively consumed in French restaurants, and some of them were provided by Denver's own Le Central, located at 112 East Eighth Avenue.
Le Central is fantastic because it's not ridiculously expensive and it employs a noticeable number of French natives, so you know your culinary experience is as authentic as you can get without a plane ride. And if you attend the restaurant's Classic French Cuisine workshops which take place roughly once a month then you can re create a little piece of Paris in your very own kitchen.
"Our French serving staff and our kitchen staff from France will make things specific to the region they come from," explains Le Central manager Megan Johnson. Tonight's workshop demonstrates how to prepare house-smoked salmon mousse, roast leg of lamb with Provence herb jus and a seasonal fruit tart.
