DIY Unto Others
Diana Rupp leaped through a few hoops before she found exactly what it was she wanted out of life. After stints as a stylist and as a fashion writer and editor, the born do-it-yourselfer opened Make Workshop, a DIY crafters' paradise in New York City: As her website notes, "She made yet another life-changing decision to trade in all that glam and glory to pursue her real passion: making stuff. But to be honest, she kind of had to: Diana's former editor ordered her to stop teaching all of her co-workers to knit on company time."
Now her workshop offers a full calendar of classes in everything from beginning sewing to how to make a "naughty secretary" skirt. Rupp's also enhanced her instructional reach with a couple of how-to books, and she'll be at the Tattered Cover Bookstore, 2526 East Colfax Avenue, tonight at 7:30 p.m. to sign her latest, Embroider Everything Workshop: The Beginner's Guide to Embroidery, Cross-Stitch, Needlepoint, Beadwork, Applique and More. As part of the presentation, she'll demonstrate a few handmade Valentine gift ideas. Admission is free, but a copy of the book will set you back $24.95; for more information, go to www.tatteredcover.com or call 303-322-7727
