Down to Business
Are you the next Van Gogh, Robert Johnson, Karl Marx or Versace but you'd like to cash in on your creative genius before your untimely demise? If so, make your way over to the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building, 201 West Colfax Avenue, today for the third annual Building Creative Businesses Expo. Hosted by the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs, the day-long event connects members of the creative community with business and public services. Attendees can look forward to refreshments, along with live entertainment from two of Denver's rising music groups, new-wave trio Cat-A-Tac and consciously catchy hip-hop ensemble the Flobots. As entertaining as the expo will be, it's also an informative networking experience across the creative divide. "A lot of times, people say that the arts community is very siloed, that there isn't a lot of overlap between the different mediums," says DOCA's Ginger White. "It's not just a party; it's information-gathering, where people can have conversations across the various genres." The bottom-floor exhibition is free to the public; $5 will gain participants access to three workshops that tackle topics ranging from how to write a business plan to basic media relations, as well as a speed-networking session. The expo begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.; for more information, visit www.denvergov.org/DOCA or call 720-865-4320.
Sat., March 8, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 2008
