From Buddy Holly to Robert Crumb, the chic elites have always appreciated the geeks. And this Friday, City, O' City -- arguably the Xanadu of Denver's hipster scene -- will give its nod to the nerds with May the Fourth Be With You, a sci-fi costume party.
"It's the kind of party that when you explain it to people, they immediately identify with it," says City, O' City owner and longtime sci-fi fan Dan Landes. "We want it to become an annual holiday, a time when we can celebrate our love of comics and sci-fi movies, which are the new archetypes of our culture."
Expanding into the parking lot behind City, O' City, there will be bands (Bad Weather California, TaunTaun, The Pirate Signal) doing instrumentals from the Star Wars score, live painting by Lennard Mullins, specialty cocktails (Yoda Soda) and food (TaunTaun sandwich; Hoth sauce), sci-fi storytelling with Andrew Orvedahl, a film screening of The People vs. George Lucas (including a Q&A with director Alexandre O. Philippe) and comedy from emcee Ben Kronberg.

"I love to create spaces and enhance our culture." says Landes, "And I think in a few years, this will rival 4/20 in terms of a holiday that's relevant to an enormous amount of people."
