Fields of Dreams
The National Sports Center for the Disabled gives sports fans a better way to get onto their favorite field or floor than running out there during a game and being tackled by security. For the fifth year in a row, the Fans on the Field ASICS 10K Walk/Run will visit the warning track at Coors Field, the Colorado Avalanche locker room and the basketball court at the Pepsi Center, and the sidelines at Invesco Field at Mile High on its way to the finish line.
A separate 5K will follow the Cherry Creek Bike Path before heading into the Pepsi Center and ending up at Invesco, and a kids Rookie Run will follow a path around Invesco and then along the sidelines to the same finish as the 10K and 5K. A post-run tailgate party includes free BBQ, beer, live entertainment and kids activities.
All proceeds benefit the National Sports Center for the Disabled, and the timing is good, says organization spokeswoman Rachel Hirt, because the Pepsi Center is hosting the NHL Sled Hockey Classic the same day. Sled hockey is just like hockey, except the teams are in sleds instead of able-bodied, she says. Its perfect, because the purpose of the event is to give people exposure to what we do.
Fans on the Field begins at Invesco at 7 a.m.; registration fees vary. For more information, go to www.fansonthefield.com.
