At tonight's Paramount Prize Fighting throwdown, the cage match will get taken to a whole new level -- literally. "This is a high-class, mixed martial arts show, unique in that it's on a stage," says Fight to Win promotor Seth Bregman.
The audience usually watches such fights from the floor of a hotel ballroom, in smaller sporting event facilities or in the comfort of their own homes, he points out, thanks to the sport's pay-per-view popularity. So this event will afford fans a rare, three-dimensional look at the brutal, full-contact sport of mixed martial arts that features everything from boxing and wrestling techniques to jiu-jitsu, karate and judo moves. Though mixed martial arts has been around for more than a century, the sport has become increasingly popular in the past few decades, and last year's Paramount Prize Fight sold out.
This year's edition should be even more entertaining: The twelve rounds of fights will be broken up by burlesque dance performances and music provided by Playboy Playmate and DJ Ms. Vicious. The doors open at 6 p.m. and matches begin at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre, 1621 Glenarm Place; tickets are $45 to $75, with special pricing for full-table seating. For tickets, call 720-937-0004 or go to www.tickethorse.com; for more information on the fighters, visit www.f2wmma.com.
