From the Ranch
Ever since I first heard about the Colorado Art Ranch, I've been thrilled. Now, we have our own writers' and artists' colony except ours roves from small town to small town, experiencing all of the state's artistic and cultural diversity. The first class of inductees was selected in April to spend a one month residency in Salida starting on May 1. This weekend marks the end of their journey, and to celebrate, the ranch is hosting an artposium that looks to be a Memorial Day blockbuster.
Head into the hills to hear Kent Haruf, author of Plainsong, talk about writing, or Christo and Jeanne Claude discuss their new project, Over the River, where they plan to "tent" the Arkansas River; learn the art of fly fishing; or take the ArtBus Tour. Salida is such a delightful place, filled with shops, restaurants and galleries, perfect for a quick getaway weekend, whether you've got a limited Super 8 budget or a cabin by the river expense account.
A River Runs Through Us runs today and tomorrow at various times in the historic Steam Plant Theater, at Sackett and G streets on the Arkansas River in downtown Salida. It's $249 per person ($230 per person for two or more), but that covers four presentations, outdoor activities, three meals and snacks.
