Go to the Prom Again
"Growing up, we always saw movies like Back to the Future and 10 Things I Hate About You that had really cool proms," says Josh Taylor, frontman of local pop-punk band Redo. "Unfortunately, most proms aren't like that. They rely on a Top 40 DJ, and nobody dances unless it's a slow song. We wanted to create that live-band, fun, party-type prom you always see in the movies."
To that end, Taylor and his bandmates are throwing their second annual Punk Rock Prom, a party that's aimed at bringing together adolescents of all ages to bask in the goofy glory that is prom night. "Our prom isn't better than anyone else's," he says, but it is an alternative. And it's open to the public. This is a prom for everyone. There are no limits, no principals, nobody to hide your flask of rum from. Anything goes."
Redo's Punk Rock Prom goes down tonight at 9 p.m. at Moe's Original BBQ and Bowl, 3295 South Broadway. The Namesakes and the Morgendorffers will open the show. Tickets to the 16+ show are $5 in advance, $7 at the door; "formal punk wear," as Taylor puts it, is requested, and a $50 prize will be awarded to the best-dressed Prom King and Queen. Drink specials (for those 21 and up) and a photo booth will also be available. For tickets and info, call 303-781-0414 or visit www.moesdenver.com.
