Good Cop, Bad Cop

Blue Heaven, for the record, refers to the preference of LAPD retirees for the remote sticks of northern Idaho, which explains why so many ex-cops, both good and bad, are suddenly on duty in Kootenai Bay in C.J. Box's so-named new thriller. A stand-alone from Box, the Wyoming-based author of the rough-and-ready Joe Pickett mystery series, Blue Heaven is the domain of struggling rancher Jess Rawlins, who's drawn into an intrigue launched when two local children witness a murder. Word is, it's a page-turner you won't put down until it's finished.

That's good reason to hit the bookstore tonight with debit card in hand: Box visits the Tattered Cover, 2526 East Colfax Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. for a reading and book signing. For more information, visit www.tatteredcover.com or call 303-322-7727.
