Gorging on Good Deeds
As it turns out, the rectilinear lines, corrugated frontages, mammoth spaces and ship's-prow semblance of the new Colorado Convention Center aren't the most digestible architectural appetizers. After just one year in the shiny new digs, Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation Denver's annual glutton-fest charity event hiked up its apron, packed up its chef's hat and decided to hold its 2006 incarnation at the Westin Hotel at the Tabor Center, the auspicious location of the first such bash nineteen years ago.
"We think it will provide a much more intimate venue for the chefs to showcase their cuisines, talents and passion," says Taste chairwoman Tina Williams. "It's good to get back to your roots."
While there may be an air of nostalgia surrounding the proceedings, the event itself a smorgasbord of victuals, libations and tunes, with proceeds going to Food Bank of the Rockies, the Women's Bean Project, Operation Frontline and Volunteers of America will be anything but stodgy. Williams promises delicacies from 25 local restaurants, beverages of every type, live music, a silent auction, amateur and professional cooking contests and, of course, the good feeling that comes from raising money to fight hunger. "All palates will be satisfied," she predicts. We'll drink and eat to that.
Get your gorge on from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Westin Denver Tabor Center, 1672 Lawrence Street. Tickets are $65, or $100 for two. For more information, go to www.tasteofthenationdenver.org or call 720-264-3321.
