Combining music and comedy is a juggling act that most event organizers would rather avoid. But the Greater Than Collective has tackled this cultural juggernaut head on -- not only with its label (which includes bands and standups), but also with its monthly showcase, the Greater Than Social Club, at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret. “I’d never heard of this being a formula before,” says musician Ian Cooke, tonight’s Greater Than musical guest. “Usually the audience is there for one or the other, and whoever’s left out winds up suffering. But it seems people are developing a taste for both comedy and music events. And Lannie’s is the perfect place for it, since it’s known for being a cabaret-burlesque venue where there’s multi-faceted entertainment.”
The humorous flip side to this coin will be Denver standup and sketch comedian Mara Wiles, who only recently returned to the stage after a longtime battle with lupus led to a kidney transplant. This rare pair will perform tonight at 8 p.m. at Lannie’s, 1601 Arapahoe Street. Tickets are $10; for more information, call 303-293-0075 or visit lannies.com.
