There’s an explanation for the growing number of dudes sprouting scruffy ’staches this month: Movember. The national charity raises money and awareness about men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health through the faces of people across the country. Today’s Mustache Dache offers a place for those with facial hair (real or otherwise) to dress up, run a 5K and collect funds for the cause.
“As much as we ladies may not be excited about the mos, the mos are pretty good with raising money and awareness,” says the Dache’s Jillian Becker of upper-lip facial hair.
Participants are encouraged to dress up in mustaches and costumes (prizes will be awarded for Best Tom Selleck Look-alike, Best Pirate-Themed Costume and more); the 3.1-mile run takes place in Stapleton Park, 8801 Martin Luther King Boulevard, and will be followed by the Mustache Bash, a party full of food, music and prizes. Registration, $35 for team members and $40 for individuals, is available online until midnight Thursday, November 21, and in person on race day, and includes a T-shirt, mustache medal and admission to the after-party. Check-in and registration runs from 7 to 8:45 a.m., and the race begins at 9. For more information and to register, visit mustachedache.com/denver.
