Breckenridge Ski Resort marks its fiftieth anniversary today with an all-day Birthday Bash that coincides with the Nike Open, the first stop on the 2011/2012 Winter Dew Tour. Catch the snowboard and freeski superpipe and slopestyle semi-finals on the mountain from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. (free to spectators from the base of Peak 8), and hit the all-day drink specials at the T-Bar -- near the base of the original T-Bar lift, installed in 1961 -- then head into town for the party, starting at 4:30 p.m.
"Everybody in town is coming together to celebrate our history and show how important the ski area is to us," says Breckenridge Re-sort Chamber spokeswoman Rachel Zerowin. "Up on Ridge Street, we'll be tapping a few kegs of Budweiser's special Breckenridge 50th Anniversary Ale, and then the fireworks and free champagne toast will start at 5:15, just before we all head to Riverwalk Center, at 150 West Adams, for the free Los Lobos concert."
