Have A Blast
Back in the 70s, Walt Disney made an educational cartoon about venereal disease called VD Attack Plan. In the flick, gonorrhea and syphilis germs are soldiers who want to invade your body and thats not the only fun fact youll learn at Blast From the Past Film Night, a showcase of weird, kitschy and otherwise hide-your-face educational film reels from our crappy past.
The reels come courtesy of Skip Elsheimer, a film historian and crap conno-sumer of the extensive annals of cultural detritus lost like an errant sock to the dryer of time. Hes got literally thousands of these things, says Dylan Otto Krider, who organized tonights screening in conjunction with an exhibit of antique toys. And though the entertainment will include only a few films, theyre choice: Theres one about diet that was paid for by the potato chip industry, offers Krider. Its like, it would take this many fruits and vegetables to equal one bag of potato chips. Its just funny how wrong-headed these things can be, going about it the wrong way and achieving the opposite in some ways, like Reefer Madness is funny especially to potheads.
The screening, presented by Kriders Ones and Zeros Pixelshow in conjunction with Elsheimers A/V Geeks, starts tonight at 7 p.m. at the Broomfield Auditorium, 3 Community Park Road in Broomfield; tickets are $5. For more information, call 720-887-2371.
