I Hear a Symphony

The Colorado Symphony Orchestra’s 2008 summer season includes eleven concerts over 23 days in July. That’s a test of skill as well as endurance on the part of the players, who should be just as crisp tonight in City Park as they will be playing similar material on July 26 at another free concert in Lone Tree. Tonight’s program offers the added appeal of fireworks against the Denver skyline as the sun sets.

The annual Independence Day tradition doesn’t need much else to recommend it, but the CSO has upped the ante anyway, by bringing in Michael Butterman, one of the nation’s “most sought-after young directors,” according to Sylvia Ferrera, media liaison for the orchestra.

“It’s a great start to the Fourth of July weekend,” she adds.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the park, East 17th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, and will feature twelve patriotic classics. Learn more at or by calling 303-308-2462.
