You're going to need a costume for your costume to attend tonight's Nan Desu Kan New Year's Eve Costume Ball. "Imagine your character is going to homecoming," says NDK spokeswoman Jinnie McManus of the cosplay-attracting end-of-year bash.

NDK is known for its large-scale Japanese animation convention, which draws thousands of J-Pop fans and video-gamers to Denver for seminars, talks and performances each fall, but tonight's gala is all about the intimate party. The dressed-to-the-nines soiree begins at 7 p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel, 3801 Quebec Street, and features a casino, low-priced food and drink specials and resident NDK DJ Bullock spinning Top 40 jams through the midnight ball drop. "Ball royalty" will be chosen by a panel of cosplay experts, and anyone interested in entering can come to the hotel starting at 6 p.m. to get an entry picture taken in the Costume Ball photo booth.
A cash bar, separate from the main room, will be available to those looking to grab a drink, but this New Year's Eve bash focuses on creating a safe and fun environment for all ages. Tickets, $15 to $20, can be purchased at www.ndk.org; a portion of the night's proceeds will go to WeHeartJapan, a charity organization helping quake and tsunami victims.
