Katt Williams Returns
Since stepping into the spotlight more than ten years ago as character Money Mike in Friday After Next, comedian and actor Katt Williams — appearing tonight and tomorrow at the Wells Fargo Theatre — has developed an unwavering following. A decent actor but an unparalleled comedian, Williams’s success is partly due to a combination of contorted facial expressions, expert timing and trademark physical comedy — a method that plays well off his smallish stature.
Fans of the Ohio native witnessed his premature retirement from the Hollywood game in 2008, though he briefly resurfaced in San Francisco in 2011 to share the stage with fellow elusive comedian Dave Chappelle. Much of his life during that hiatus was a mix of myth and legal woes, but the funnyman’s die-hard fans have so far proved that they are ready for his return in the election-themed GNC: Ghetto National Convention Tour.
Beyond his penchant for physical laughs, Williams is a comedian by and for the working class: The “Every Day I’m Hustlin’” philosophy he puts forth on stage is cemented in the idea that regardless of whether one is a librarian or a fry cook, there is success to be found. With an always flamboyant delivery, the comedian also hits on religion, family, culture and, of course, weed.
Williams hits the stage at 8 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Theatre in the Colorado Convention Center, 700 14th Street. For more information or to purchase tickets, $60 to $75, visit www.livenation.com.
