Kitties Galore

The Dollar Tree has nothing on the Denver Dumb Friends League, where cat lovers can take home an adorable kitty — complete with vaccinations, sterilizations, a microchip ID implant and fifteen days of free checkups — for a buck.

In celebration of 100 years of finding homes for pets, the DDFL is offering a 100-Cent Special on cat adoptions today through September 12. It’s also partly because the organization just has too many cats; according to public relations manager Michelle Ray, cats tend to reproduce in the spring and pile up over the summer, and in August, that figure reached a whopping 800, leading the League to even waive adoption fees for a few weeks. That’s over, but this week brings one more chance to get a really, really cheap cat.

Although Ray stresses that there’s a process to adoptions (you can’t just walk in and grab one) and that the deal only applies to cats older than one year, since kittens tend to get snatched up faster, she’s adamant about the price: “There really won’t be any other outside fees.”

To check out the available felines, go to or just show up at one of the DDFL’s two locations: the Quebec Street Center, at 2080 South Quebec Street in Denver, or the Buddy Center, at 4556 Castleton Court in Castle Rock. For more information, call 303-751-5772.
