Lights, Camera, Action!
I like to think of this year's installment of the Design After Dark party as Burning Man meets black tie. It'll be all fancy-shmancy it is a fundraiser for the Denver Art Museum's Department of Architecture, Design & Graphics, after all but with real party people keeping it from being yet another stuffy charity affair. To start, eight architecture firms each designed a vignette inspired by a classic movie, including Citizen Kane, 2001: A Space Odyssey and V for Vendetta (kudos to OZ Architecture for a cheeky choice). Then there's DJ Milk on the boards and An-Ism creating the atmosphere. Plus an open bar and great snacks. If you're under 35, you get into the party taking place at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, 771 East Academy Boulevard for just $35 ($45 if you put off making your plans until tonight); if you're old enough to have seen The Shining in the theater, it's $70 in advance or $90 at the door. But if you want the complete Hollywood experience, shell out $125 for the red-carpet portion of the evening, which comes with a sneak peek at the sets before the mob hits, some face time with each of the designers, and a live Christie's auction of top-shelf must-haves chosen by DAM architecture curator Craig Miller. The VIPs start gorging on the visual feast at 5:30 p.m.; everyone else arrives at 7:30. Visit www.blacktie-colorado.com for tickets and more information. It promises to be An Affair to Remember.
Fri., Jan. 26, 5:30-11 p.m.
