Dogs get all the pet props, and cats aren't far behind. What do they have that the guinea pig doesn't? That is, besides size and permission to roam the house unconfined. It's downright unfair!

The Dumb Friends League will attempt to even the score at today's March Mammal Madness, a tribute to guinea pigs as well as rats, hamsters, gerbils and rabbits. Both DFL locations, 2080 South Quebec Street in Denver and 4556 Castleton Court in Castle Rock, will open their doors from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for rodent races, crafts, face-painting, informational booths on small mammal care and even an "XY Identify" station, where you can learn if you're the proud owner of a lady gerbil or a manly hamster.

You're welcome to bring your own small pet or borrow one of the furry friends up for adoption at the DFL. For more information, visit www.ddfl.org or call 303-751-5772. If the DFL is out of your way, Table Mountain Animal Center is also hosting March Mammal Madness at 4105 Youngfield Service Road.
