There are few artistic journeys longer and more involved than the process of getting a novel from idea to print -- and few more daunting. Luckily, the Lighthouse Writers Workshop’s Story of a Book is here to help.

Helping is the main purpose of the Lighthouse Writers Workshop. “For some people, we’re kind of like a graduate program without the grades,” says Mike Henry, Lighthouse executive director. “For others, we’re a chance to meet like-minded people.” Tonight’s event will be a little of both: Four Lighthouse authors – two students and two instructors (including former Westword staff writer Harrison Fletcher) – will be on hand to talk about books they've recently published, focusing on the mechanical aspects of making it happen. “The books are going to run the gamut,” Henry says. “Harrison Fletcher’s came out on a small university press; Eleanor Brown’s was featured on NPR and was the choice of the month at Barnes & Noble.”

And if the ulterior motive, as Henry admits, is “to highlight some of the publications coming out of Lighthouse,” it’s certainly a group worth highlighting. Story of a Book starts at 7 p.m. tonight at EventGallery 910Arts, 910 Santa Fe Drive; admission is free. For more information, call 303-815-1779 or visit www.lighthousewriters.org.
