Northern Lights

As expressed in its title, the shared topic of events associated with the Biennial of the Americas, which is being rolled out this month, is the Western hemisphere. Most of the countries in the Americas are south of us, but Canada is also on the docket with You Are Here, on display at Plus Gallery in cooperation with the Canadian consulate.

The show is the brainchild of Plus director Ivar Zeile. “I've always had a strong affinity for Canada, having spent a lot of time there while I was growing up,” he says. “I see Canada as an underdog, and that status, for me, draws many parallels to the Denver art scene and its relationship to the rest of the world." Zeile selected five Canadian artists — Brendan Tang, Alex McLeod, Douglas Walker, Andrew Rucklidge and Luke Painter — and points out that each creates pieces that warp our sense of place and culture.

You Are Here continues through August 20 at Plus, 2501 Larimer Street. Call 303-296-0927 or go to for details.
