There’s plenty to be happy about at today’s One Past 5 Happy Hour/Doors Open Denver Kickoff, when several local agencies will celebrate coming together to present the annual architectural open house that returns this weekend (April 13-14). Historic Denver Inc. jumped in by sharing its One Past 5 signature fundraising happy hour with its Doors Open Denver partners, including Historic Denver, Denver Arts and Venues, the Denver Architectural Foundation, Create Denver and DOD itself, and they’ll all be partying at the McNichols Building in a prelude that’s also an homage to “City Beautiful, Then and Now,” DOD’s 2013 theme. And because the century-old McNichols exemplifies the concept of City Beautiful, it’s not only a perfect party site — with its classic architecture, art galleries and public spaces — but also this year’s DOD headquarters.
The festivities, which start precisely at 5:01 p.m. at the McNichols, 144 West Colfax Avenue, will include catering by Sarto’s, Brian Laird’s yet-to-open Jefferson Park eatery, music, art viewing and more, and it’s a real deal. “A lot of happy hours still make you pay for drinks,” notes Historic Denver spokeswoman Sophie Bieluczyk. “But we not only have the drinks included, we also have art, building tours, history and delicious food for the price of admission.” You can pay that price, $30, by buying tickets in advance at historicden-ver.org.
