It’s never too early to start holiday shopping, and for those seeking handmade or unusual gifts, the first wave of sales begins this weekend, with many time-honored annual gift events rubbing elbows with a few fresh ones. One of the latter, the Paris Holiday Market Trunk Show, is actually in its second year, though last year’s crafty soiree took place in someone’s living room. This year’s expanded trunk show will offer beautiful handmades, trinkets, treats and accessories with a Parisian flair that includes sexy mood music by accordionist Jeff Hooton for an hour in the afternoon.
“We really loved the idea of a themed event, and it gives creatives extra inspiration: The City of Lights can inspire even the least imaginative,” says spokesman Chris Loffelmacher. (The Denver Public Library’s Fresh City Life maven also knits in his spare time, and is participating as Caveman Knits.) “We’d love to see it become an annual event. Right now, we’re content to host a group of artists and crafters who contribute to what makes Denver a place for dreamers and doers — the kind of city local citizens once hopefully called ‘Paris on the Platte.’”
Along with a classy assortment of jewelry, needlework, knitting, crochet, candles, cards and stationery, eats by Primo Specialty Foods will be available for purchase, as well as “other Frenchy foods to nosh on — croissants, cheeses, fruits and some spectacular spiced wine to sample,” says Loffelmacher. In addition, several vendors will donate 10 percent of their sales to local charities, including Project Angel Heart. “So it is an excellent way to support local creatives, truly ‘Occupy Wall Street,’ and help others who find themselves in need at this time of year,” he adds.
Shop the Paris trunk show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Heritage Square’s Victorian Event Center, 18301 West Colfax Avenue in Golden. Admission is free; visit the Facebook event page at www.facebook.com/ParisHolidayMarket for more information.
