A heated debate over which city makes the best beer bubbled up before the Denver Broncos took on the New England Patriots in the playoffs in January: Boston mayor Tom Menino erroneously claimed that Beantown had the best. The Broncos lost, and the Patriots moved on to the Super Bowl, where they will face the New York Giants. But beer will always be a part of the big game. Here are two suggestions for where to find it on Super Bowl Sunday -- one a haven for Pats fans, the other for true-blue Giants fans.
The Tavern Uptown, 538 East 17th Avenue, will host Giants fans, as it typically does, with beer specials, sliders, wings and lots of other sports-bar grub. A Giants fan group will also be partying in the pool room with a squares game and a raffle. For more information, go to www.tavernhg.com/uptown or the Tavern's Facebook page.
And at Highland Tap and Burger, 2219 West 32nd Avenue, Patriots fans will feel at home with $5 pints of Sam Adams, fish and chips, lobster rolls and New England clam chowder. The LoHi spot will also have party packs on every table along with coupons and party favors. And from 1 to 4 p.m., there will be Pats-Giants trivia. Find out more at http://highlandtapdenver.com.
Kickoff is at 4:25, but you'll want to arrive early at either spot to get a good seat and get your pre-party on.
