Carrie MaKenna has been hosting a holiday “feast of the arts” at her studio, Anam Cara Living Arts Studio & Gallery, for the past four years. But the fifth edition will include something new: a Purple Friday sales special. “All of the hoopla about Black Friday and getting up at 3 a.m. or whatever to go shopping struck me as needing an alternative,” MaKenna says. “And there really is almost nothing more personal than artwork to give as a gift. If you can find something that you know someone’s going to like, it’s going to be in their home probably for the rest of their lives, and you really do have to know the person, keep them in mind and find something that is unique to them.”

And not only will you be giving a meaningful gift (prices run from $20 to $200), but MaKenna will be giving a gift back to you: a few extra hours of sleep. While many Black Friday events start in the pitch-black, the Purple Friday sales (and the rest of the feast of the arts) will run from noon to 6 p.m. today, tomorrow and Sunday.

Anam Cara Living Arts is located at 445 South Saulsbury Street, Studio B, in the Belmar center in Lakewood; for more information, call 720-933-3813 or visit www.anamcarastudiogallery.com.
