The ultimate study in isolated collaboration, tonight’s Audio Kicks brings separately developed elements of photography, music and modern dance together in one performance.

At the project’s center is photographer Jennifer Davidson, who was commissioned by Off Center@The Jones to capture people’s stories through their favorite pair of shoes. Next, the images were sent to ten local bands — including Wire Faces, Danielle Ate the Sandwich and Julie Stratton — who wrote or picked a previously composed song to fit the photographs. Finally, the music and art was passed along to the 3rd Law Dance company for a physical interpretation, which you can see tonight at the Jones, located in the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

But like all performances put on in the space, the modern-dance component is far from clichéd. “It’s not weird or vague, leaping ‘I’m lost in the wilderness with my sisters’ kind of dance,” promises Emily Tarquin, co-curator for the Off Center@The Jones series. Opening with live music from one of the featured bands, 3rd Law will seamlessly merge the separately created works into one choreographed piece, spliced with on-camera interviews with the dancers.

Doors open at 8 p.m., and the show starts at 8:30. Tickets are $14 and can be purchased at www.denveroffcenter.org or by calling 303-893-6090. Audio Kicks runs through March 9.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: March 1. Continues through March 9, 2013
