Josh LaBure of vegan advocacy group Plants & Animals Denver had seen vegan proms in New York City and San Francisco, and he thought it was high time the Mile High City got in the game. So tonight, Plants & Animals and Vegan Coloradical are teaming up to present the Fancy Plants Vegan Prom at the Mercury Cafe, just in time for formal season.
Let's face it: Adult proms are way cooler than the high-school kind -- and this one has all the best elements of prom, and more. "There will be really good music," LaBure says, "delicious vegan finger food and tapas, tons of giveaways. We have tons of companies offering really good products, and raffle tickets for $1." There will also be a picture area where people can get prom pictures for $5, plus a cash bar with vegan drinks. "No chaperones," LaBure adds. "You can dance as close to your partner as you want. And everybody's welcome; you don't have to be vegan to come."
