“I know nobody listens to my radio show and thinks, ‘You know what this needs? Some dancers,’” says This American Life host Ira Glass. “And nobody sits through a dance show and thinks, ‘This needs some guy talking and playing audio clips.’”
But that is just what Glass has done with Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host, which comes to the Buell Theatre this evening. Glass’s collaboration with dancers Monica Bill Barnes and Anna Bass, which originated during a This American Life variety show, attempts a mash-up of voice and body, telling stories through the silent medium of dance and the blind medium of radio. “I tell stories, they dance; we’re telling stories about love, losing those you love, and what it’s like to dance for a living,” says Glass in the promotional trailer for the event. “I’m being completely sincere when I say that this is one my favorite things I have ever been a part of.”
Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Buell, 950 13th Street in the Denver Performing Arts Center. Tickets start at $20. For more information, visit denvercenter.org.
