Tonight, childhood dreams come true as the Denver Film Society's Reel Social Club takes over Lakeside Amusement Park for Summer Scream, a private, adults-only evening of wild rides, outdoor movie watching and live DJ sets. The event celebrates the club's successful first year of events by giving members free rein at the old-school park for a late-summer night of no lines, no kids, and plenty of adult beverages provided by three bar stations set up throughout.
"Initially, we weren't sure we could rent out the whole park," says club co-founder Katie Shapiro. But the movie buffs ultimately got the go-ahead, and Shapiro hopes to make the end-of-summer fundraiser an annual event.
National Lampoon's Vacation will be screened when the sun goes down at Lakeside's "central park," followed by DJs, who will spin records late into the night. Summer Scream opens at 6 p.m. and is free for club members, $35 for adults over 21; Lakeside is at 4601 Sheridan Boulevard.
