Resurrecting the Dead

The freshly reunited Grateful Dead cover band One Kind Favor has decided to resurrect the Dead for one night only: Halloween, naturally.

When One Kind Favor was playing regularly years ago, explains Swallow Hill’s Rudy Betancourt, “American Beauty was one of their warhorses. They’d play the entire album front to back, in order, and sometimes they play some original tunes, too, but within the whole Grateful Dead flavor.” That’s exactly what will happen tonight. One Kind Favor, featuring Swallow Hill faculty member Paul Trunko, will perform American Beauty cover to cover, including much-loved favorites like “Friend of the Devil” and “Truckin’.” We haven’t tried looking at the album cover upside down in a mirror for decades, but allegedly it spells “Devil’s Kingdom.” That, or you just ate one too many “special” Halloween treats.

Catch One Kind Favor tonight at 8 p.m.; tickets are $10 to $14. Swallow Hill is at 71 East Yale Avenue; visit or call 303-777-1003.
