Return of the Fancy Plants
Last year’s Fancy Plants Vegan Prom was such a success that even the proprietress of the host establishment, Marilyn Megenity of the Mercury Cafe, said she wanted to see a second incarnation. Organizer Joshua LaBure and his cohorts were happy to oblige.
“One big difference this year is that we have live music,” LaBure notes. “Chadzilla and the Asteroids, an ’80s cover band, will be playing. But most everything else will be about the same: lots of dancing, vegan food, a photo station to take some prom pictures, and tons of giveaways from Earth Balance, Bee Free Honey and Nooch Vegan Market.” Non-vegans are welcome to join in, he adds. “It’s open to everyone, and it’s going to be a really good time.”
Fancy Plants starts at 8 p.m. tonight at the Mercury, 2199 California Street; admission (for ages 21 and older only) is $10 in advance and $15 at the door, and proceeds will benefit the Peaceful Prairie Animal Sanctuary. Visit plantsanimals.org for information.
