Rock the Block

The first annual Dog House Music Summer Block Party came together in such a way that it truly seems it was meant to be. “We have this special focal point coming, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus,” explains Dog House’s Gary Lennox. Lennon was Lennox’s idol, and the latter’s been on the tour bus request list for three years.

“When they told me they were coming, I freaked out,” Lennox admits. (The bus includes a state-of-the-art recording studio and DVD studio in which artists such as the Black Eyed Peas, Wyclef Jean and Natasha Bedingfield have laid down tracks.) “I was going to have a couple of bands play, but then I said, ‘If I’m going for a street closure and a noise-ordinance permit, why not make it a full day?’”

Why not, indeed? Dog House also hosts a summer Rock & Roll Camp for kids, which launches several new teen bands each year; those bands will get their first chance to play a concert at the block party, and one lucky block party attendee will win admission to the camp’s fall session. Lost Point, Vince Herman (of Leftover Salmon and Great American Taxi) and others will perform on stage. The party is free to attend; stop by Dog House Music, 525 Courtney Way in Lafayette, beginning at 10 a.m. today. Call 303-956-3377 or visit
