Mondo got robbed. Pretty much everyone who followed Season 8 of Project Runway agrees: Denver designer and runner-up Mondo Guerra should have taken it all, especially after breaking our hearts with the on-air revelation that in addition to being an incredibly talented, lovable character, he's HIV-positive. His loss didn't dampen his spirits, though. Instead, he roared back into Denver, using his coming-out to do something positive in the world by speaking out about and designing special T-shirts to raise funds for AIDS research.
And his Project Runway story didn't stop there. Root for Mondo again during Project Runway All Stars, now in progress on Lifetime. Just as he was the first time around, he's in the house at Beauty Bar every Thursday for twelve weeks as host of an ongoing series of Mondo's All-Star Thursdays viewing parties, through March 22.
"Ever since he got back from filming the show, he's wanted to have a similar experience to the one in 2010," spokesman Remigio Darby explains. And though Mondo can't divulge the outcome, Darby adds that "it's going to be an exciting season, and [Mondo] would love to share that with Denver. It's great to have that kind of visibility on a national level, and to keep showing the rest of the country that Denver is a cool place to be."
Party with Mondo from 6 to 9 p.m. at Beauty Bar, 608 East 13th Avenue; Project Runway begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but donations of any size for the Colorado AIDS Project will be accepted. For more information, go to www.lovemondotrasho.com.
Thursdays, 7 p.m. Starts: Jan. 5. Continues through March 22, 2012
