Searching for Brews Clues
Even if you hit spring break a little too hard, you cant blame the booze for the snowboarding chickens, skiing bunnies and yetis youve seen out of the corner of your beer goggles on the slopes. New Belgium Brewing concludes its three-mountain Scavenger Hunt series today at Loveland, and costumed hunters will be skiing and snowboarding all over the mountain, chasing down clues in their search for Bigfoot and his buddies; the winners get a New Belgium cruiser bike and other prizes.
"People tend to think of us as the beer company with a biking problem, and this event is our way of setting the record straight: We have a skiing problem, too," says Mike Keller, New Belgium's National Festivarian. Yes, Festivarian. "One of the core values we have as a company is to have fun. We want people to come up to the mountains and enjoy the scavenger hunt, be active, be out on skis and loosen their mindset a little bit, running around after our crazy characters and having a good time."
Another of the company's core values is environmental sustainability (the Festivarian likes to say that his company is "alternatively empowered"), and today's $10 entry fee benefits the Alliance for a Sustainable Colorado. To participate, check in before 10 a.m. The hunt runs until 3 p.m., followed by of course an Après Scavenger Hunt party. For more info, visit www.newbelgium.com/hunt.
