Humans are always in such a rush; sometimes we dont even look up while we dart from one place to another. And it seems that even with recreation, the objective is to cram in as much activity as possible. We boast about how many runs we got in during our hours at the ski resort, but isnt the entire point to head for the peace and quiet of the hills to get away from all the hustle and bustle and just enjoy the outdoors?
The folks behind Ski With a Naturalist think so, which is why theyve arranged the free tours that depart every Tuesday and Thursday from the top of the Steamboat Springs Ski Resort gondola (at Why Not Trail). One of the objectives of the tour is to expose people to the trees and the animals and winter survival, helping them see things that they might not otherwise see if they were just zipping down the slopes, says Jennifer Wright, executive director of Yampatika, the organization that puts on the tours in conjunction with the resort and in cooperation with the National Forest Service. Our guides really tailor it to the interests and needs of the people on the tour.
The program runs from 1:30 to approximately 2:30 p.m. Ski With a Naturalist continues through March 27, and registration is required; visit www.yampatika.org www.yampatika.org or call 1-970-871-9151.
Tuesdays, Thursdays, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 18. Continues through March 27, 2007
