Art can be appreciated in all shapes and sizes, and the Modest in Scale exhibition at Abecedarian Gallery is meant for appreciating art in one of its smallest forms: All 43 pieces on display are twelve inches or smaller in every dimension.
“It’s a great show to have right before Christmas, because people are out looking at art in a different way,” says Alicia Bailey, owner and director of Abecedarian. “Maybe with a more intimate look at things they might be getting as gifts or for themselves.”
The pieces, which were selected from 200 submissions by Chicago artist, educator and curator Doug Stapleton, include paintings, drawings, prints, textiles, photography and sculptures. Thirty artists representing thirteen states are featured; a quarter of them hail from Colorado.
The opening reception starts at 6 p.m. at the gallery, 910 Santa Fe, #101, as part of the Art District on Santa Fe’s Third Friday Collector’s Preview. Admission is free, and several local artists with work in the show will be attending. The exhibition will run through December 15; Abecedarian is open from 1 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
