A nice thing about babies: They're totally camera-ready. Even with their munchkin-esque faces screwed up in agony or anger, they're strangely cute. But the image of a dewy one-year-old planting his or her face in a birthday cake is certainly a classic, and the well-kept family photo album without one is hard to find. Now Polaroid, the number-one purveyor of instant gratification in amateur photography, is banking on that fact to host a series of World's Largest One-Year-Old Birthday Parties at children's museums across the nation. That includes one today at the Children's Museum of Denver, 2121 Children's Museum Drive, I-25 and 23rd Avenue. It's the place to be if you're young and teething: This morning at 10, one hundred picture-perfect year-old kids (technically, that means anyone between the ages of twelve and 23 months) will be invited to dive into a sheet cake as the flashbulbs pop and proud mamas and papas look on (although, for the sake of sanitation, each child will be given an individual cupcake for eating purposes). The icing on the face -- er, cake? At least one birthday babe will walk away with a $1,000 cash prize, and five families will claim brand-new Polaroid One cameras. Museum admission is free for each lucky tot and one accompanying parent per family.
Attendance is limited, and pre-registration is required; call 303-433-7444, ext. 134, for reservations. Then say "cheese" for Mama and Papa. -- Susan Froyd

Over the past twenty years, the Colorado Children's Chorale has grown from one fifty-voice choir to five separate ensembles comprising some 400 children between the ages of seven and fourteen. As the CCC has honed its programs, those choirs developed into seasoned performance vehicles as well as marquee-name pinch-hitters: Wherever children's voices are needed in the metro area (and abroad -- the chorale's more advanced groups have sung across the nation and even on the Great Wall of China), Chorale members are off the bench in a flash. That will be the case this weekend, when the CCC Concert Choir joins the Cherry Creek Chorale to collaborate on "My Native Land," a concert of all-American music with a focus on Native American poetry and traditions. Shows are at 7:30 tonight and tomorrow night at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 East Hampden Avenue. For tickets, $3 to $12, call 303-789-5920.
And just in case your little ones are inspired to raise their own voices in song, CCC is holding auditions through the end of June. All that's really required is motivation: If your kid loves to perform, call 303-892-5600 for an appointment. -- Susan Froyd
