"We're rolling out the white carpet this week," says Visit Denver spokesman Justin Bresler about Mile High Snowfest, which coincides with the Snowsports Industries America SIA Snow Show at the Convention Center.
Although the convention, which runs today through January 28, isn't open to the public, there are several related events in the area, including Icelantic's Winter on the Rocks concert, TransWorld Snowboarding's Rider's Poll Awards, and the Art of Winter displays happening around town. In addition, there are "thirty or so bars, clubs, and restaurants putting on specials for our winter-loving locals and visitors," Bresler says.
Free ice skating at Skyline Park's Southwest Rink (16th and Arapahoe streets), free activities at Denver Pavilions and the Something Independent Art of Winter exhibits start today, and the Snowdown 2012 SIA kickoff party goes down tonight at City Hall, 1037 Broadway, featuring Dilated Peoples as the headliner and an all-night lineup of performances on all five stages. The Winter on the Rocks show -- "the first-ever winter concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre," according to Bresler -- is on Friday, starring hip-hoppers Atmosphere and Common (tickets are $50.25). And the TransWorld Snowboarding Rider's Poll Awards are also that night, at the Fillmore, 1510 Clarkson Street, and will double as the magazine's 25th-anniversary bash.
