“We’re celebrating the end of the world as we know it,” says Chris Kermiet, one of the organizers of the 27th annual Winter Solabration, a celebration of Christmas and Yuletide customs that humans have used to usher in longer days and shorter nights for hundreds of years.

And Kermiet has some exciting things planned for the end of this world. “Lorenzo Trujillo will do fandango dances,” he says, “and we’ll have the Abbots Bromley horn dance at the end of the evening, which is one of the oldest ritual dances in the Western Hemisphere. We’ll have a Morris dance group and sword dancers, a little mummers play, jugglers, a storyteller, wassailing and caroling.”

The Solabration runs from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Temple Events Center, 1595 Pearl Street; tickets are $33 for adults, $19 for teens and students and $9 for children ages six to twelve. Visit wsolstice.org for more information.
Sat., Dec. 22, 6 p.m.-midnight, 2012
