If youre sick of being stuck in an orgy of candy and costumes, you should know that the origins of Halloween were about communicating with the dead. And today, those who want to get a little more spiritual oomph out of their Halloween can head to Isis Books & Gifts for two out-of-this-world workshops centered on that fact. The first is The Veil Is Thin, which takes advantage of this one day of the year when the veil between our world and the dimension of the dead is supposedly at its thinnest. Workshop leader Karen Fox, a psychic and medium, will teach tips and techniques on spirit communication and spend some time relaying messages between attendees and their loved ones who have passed on. Shes really helpful to people in conveying information, says Isis owner Karen Harrison. Its presented in such a compassionate and matter-of-fact way.
The second workshop is Full Moon in Taurus; every month at Isis, Amber Zeta leads a magical craft workshop, and since this moon fell so close to Halloween, shes teaching about the lore of pumpkins and how to create a Manifestation Pumpkin.
The Veil Is Thin runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; admission is a donation. Full Moon in Taurus goes from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; admission is $13. Both take place at 2775 South Broadway in Englewood; call 303-761-8627 or visit www.isisbooks.com for more information.
